Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, weaving together the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a nasty environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- However, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the party reach areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The target is wanted dead by the clan.
This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.
Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
